| If you plan to make renovations to your home, look for a contractor you can trust or is publicly known. Many people have already been fooled by contractors who promise to do the job, ask for a down payment but does not show up the next day or gives you a very high quote or has hidden charges. To protect you, do not commit right away. Scout for other contractors and compare prices. To avoid hidden charges ask for a written contract. The law of Indiana requires home improvement contracts exceeding $150 to be in writing. Make sure that the contract includes the contractor's name and address, contact details like office or home numbers, the price of the job, detailed description of the work to be done and materials to be used including the kind and cost if possible, estimated start and completion dates and importantly, the contractor's signature. To assure a desirable result on your renovations, checkup on the improvements of your contractor once in a while so you could see whether or not the work is being done according to your expectations. |
